The Lovely Bones Script Review
Bringing a book to the big screen is always a difficult undertaking. Fans throw riots in the isles when their favorite plot twist is ruined or their favorite character doesn't live up to their potential. Peter Jackson takes on The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. A story about a young girl who is gruesomely murdered and the strife her parents have to go through afterward, all narrated by the young girl, looking down from "Heaven".
It's unfortunate that this is yet another adaptation that falls short of it's book fame. Jackson's previous film, "Heavenly Creatures" runs on the same notes as The Lovely Bones. The same story of young girls abruptly killed and the fantasy afterlives they create there after. The Lovely Bones lacked the depth of character that Susie Salmon has with in the pages of the books, a feat he did manage to surpass during Heavenly Creatures.
All the major plot pieces and story lines have made it to the big screen, as well as some narrations that are word for word. We can only hope that this large cast of stars can act as well as the characters from the book can in the minds of the readers.
With an expected budget of $90 million, the special effects of Susie's personal "Heaven" and her spiritual interactions with the living should be nothing less then expected from the director of films like The Lord of the Rings and King Kong.
